This presentation is centring on Roman Warwick,
which, up to this point there has been relatively
scant evidence for. Archaeology Warwickshire
have excavated two sites within Warwick and a
third very close by which all have varying scales

The talk concerns two lost settlements in south-eastern Staffordshire, in the hinterland of Tamworth. Coton Farm is a multi-period site, with evidence of activity in the later Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, and medieval periods. The prehistoric evidence speaks of a mobile way of life, influenced by the nearby River Tame. The medieval evidence might suggest a small settlement of tofts fronting onto Coton Lane, which then became a farmstead. Dunston Farm, though, only provides evidence of a medieval farmstead. The two sites offer an opportunity to understand how medieval settlements were influenced by the proximity of Tamworth, which had been an important town since the early medieval, and the River Tame, which both limited movement in the landscape but also provided resources.
